Why the dates are expected
A month of the Islamic calendar begins when the new crescent moon is seen after sunset. The dates here follow the Umm al-Qura calendar of Saudi Arabia, worked out in advance; many countries and communities wait for their own sighting, which can put the start a day later. The countdown runs to midnight at the start of the first day of fasting in your time zone.
Ramadan ends with Eid al-Fitr. About seventy days later comes Eid al-Adha.
