About Eid al-Adha

Eid al-Adha falls on the tenth of Dhu al-Hijjah, the last month of the Islamic year, while pilgrims in Mecca complete the Hajj. The dates here follow the Umm al-Qura calendar, which also sets the Hajj; where the month waits for the local sighting of the new moon, Eid may come a day later. See also Eid al-Fitr.

Questions and answers

When is Eid al-Adha 2027?

It is expected on Sunday, May 16, 2027, the tenth day of Dhu al-Hijjah, the day after the Day of Arafah.

How is Eid al-Adha different from Eid al-Fitr?

Eid al-Fitr ends the fast of Ramadan. Eid al-Adha, about seventy days later, comes at the end of the Hajj pilgrimage and remembers Abraham’s readiness to sacrifice his son.
